Celebrating Lunar New Year

In February we celebrated the cultural occasion of Lunar New Year, with activities organised by Ms Cui, Mandarin Teacher.

Pupils showed off their Kungfu moves during sessions delivered by China Spirit UK, and instructors were impressed by their enthusiasm and determination. Other activities included tasting new foods, dancing like dragons, Chinese calligraphy techniques and mastering the art of chopsticks in Ms Cui’s chopstick challenge.

Lunar New Year is a time for family, renewal, and celebration. It's a major holiday in Chinese culture that marks the start of the new year on the lunisolar calendar. This year, it is the Year of the Snake, which represents shedding bad energy and transforming into an enlightened being. People born in the Year of the Snake are said to be intelligent, resilient, and loving. They are also known for being deep thinkers, calm, resourceful, and able to analyse situations.
